Thoughts on the Tesla’s Run at the Green Hell (Nürburgring)

Everyone but Porsche seems fairly impressed with Tesla’s plaid prototype. Today they announced that their unofficial laps times are in the neighborhood of 7 minutes 20 seconds.

They also said they think they may be able to get the time into the 7:05 range next month when they are back to try again.

What I don’t see anyone talking is what the ultimate purpose is for being at the ring in the first place. Yeah Porsche… made fun of a 6 year old car. That’s not the goal.

Predictions: The Next Time We See Tesla at the Nürburgring

Tesla Model S Plaid will easily set the fastest (soon to) production four door car speed around the track. They will use the data from this run to tweak the car.

They may also set the quickest mass produced cars self-driving/autonomous speed time on the track.

The first trip was all just smoke and mirrors so than can collect data for their real run at the Nürburgring.

Who cares if you’re the fastest four door car at the track? The real goal is fastest car around the track ever. Period

… The Roaster 2.0 should be out sometime late next year. Maybe They will bring the Roaster 2.0 the next time they show up at the track.

Tesla’s Hype Machine

Tesla lives on hype and the following quote is directly from the preorder page for the Tesla Roadster 2.0.
“The first supercar to set every performance record and still fit seating for four.”

A run at the Ring would help solidify their claim if the car is up to the task. With the data they collected on this trip they can probably figure out the Roadsters 2.0s. theoretical lap time.

According to Wikipedia, the current production car record holder is the Lamborghini Aventador LP770-4 SVJ @ 6:44.97. Lamborghini conducted test with a full roll cage and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires.

According to the information released by Tesla, the Roadster 2.0 should be able to out preform the Aventador LP770-4 SVJ in every way. Time will tell if that statement is true.

Wrapping things up

The long and the short of it… Tesla was at the Nürburgring for two reasons.

Repay Porsche for trying to embarrass them on the world stage.

Collect data to get their Tesla roaster dialed in for a run at the all-time production Nürburgring record attempt.

This site has been in bad shape for the last few months. I have completely restructured the front and back end. Many new features will speed things up, and hopefully, we will be better than ever. Our page rank is seriously suffering from a few mistakes I made when I let the site break and stay down for an extended period of time. I did try to retain the original header. You will find that the site is now phone/mobile friendly. We are also utilizing lazy loading so if I happen to make a post with too many pictures it will load as you need them which saves me bandwidth and saves you time if the content isn’t to your liking.

Most of our new content has been focused on “how to” articles simply because they get hits and people really do not care what a blogger has to say about energy. (That said I will probably have a few energy posts in the future)

I have a lot of other projects going on so I do not expect I will be updating the main page very often. This site is automatically tied in with a feed to most of my other projects so the top right corner will show my latest activity. I expect most of the activity will be related to other sites. I plan to get ThebakkenFormation and BakkenThreeForks back off the ground a separate projects in the future. I also plan to get a blog going for one of my car sites. I will also be working on client sites as needed.

My Updates in short:

Got Engaged

I’m now a webmaster and co-owner of Dirt River Design LLC

I have been working a new job for about a year as a well site geologist in Western North Dakota

Recent oil price changes will likely provide additional time to work on side projects and our business.

We have another significant plan in the works, but it will probably be July or later before you see anything about that here

I expect all of my old followers are all gone, but if any of you are still around people feel free to drop me a message.

I will likely start putting a bit more time into the site again. A lot of things have been happening, but I haven’t had much time to focus on my hobbies.

I would like to get some kind of business going in the next year or so, but I don’t exactly have a business model so we have long ways to go on that front.

I was one $86 pipe short of being stage 2 so…. Now I’m stage 2. Unfortunately, I ended up needing a new O2 sensor as part of the game so it was about $200, but still a lot less $1800 Cobb’s kit costs.
